KCR is Hiring: Youth Settlement Activity Worker (Student Position)

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week for eight weeks*, Monday – Friday, some weekends and evenings may be required
*For the right candidate there is the option to offer this position on a part-time basis through the summer and early fall

Anticipated Start Date: June 22, 2020
The end date will be dependent on the part-time or full-time work plan

Position Summary:
To coordinate and deliver youth-focused settlement and cultural integration services to newcomers to Canada.

Reporting Structure: Reports to Immigrant Services Manager

Prime Functions:
  • Assisting in booking summer Youth and Children events: Laser Bowling, Museum trips, Art walk, Craft and Outdoor Games, Dance lessons and other fun learning activities (including virtual games and activities)
  • Participating with and supervising youth who attend events, with a Settlement Worker
  • Updating Facebook page under the direction of the Settlement Team Lead
  • Planning, initiating and reviewing activities and organizing materials required for events
  • Performing marketing activities and getting necessary approvals before promoting them
  • Liaising with parents
  • Providing the correct registration forms to potential participants and collect completed registration and consent forms
  • Providing input and ideas regarding activities to be included as part of the youth program
  • Any other tasks as required in order to support the Immigrant Services Department
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
Qualifications:
  • Energetic, organized, and responsible
  • Interest in working with immigrant children and youth
  • Excellent event planning skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, written and verbal communication skills
  • Additional languages and cultural proficiency; knowledge and experience in cross-cultural communication and service methods appropriate to participants with low literacy and low English skills
  • Demonstrate computer proficiency and knowledge of social media programs
