Share your Light
As the year draws to a close and the holiday season brightens our homes, it’s a time when we reflect on the community we share and the compassion that defines it. For many of our neighbours in the Central Okanagan, this time of year brings unique challenges—from the sudden weight of a crisis to the quiet struggle of finding a first job in a new country.
This is where KCR Community Resources steps in, acting as a vital foundation for a stronger, healthier community.
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to foster diversity, collaboration, and resourcefulness by tailoring services to meet the diverse needs of every individual and family. We are not just one service; we are four pillars of support working in unison:
- Strengthening Families: Through our Family & Adoption Services, the KCR Family Hub provides essential food, resources, and connection points for parents and children. Last year alone, our Family Hub provided over 1,400 food hampers and hundreds of program referrals, ensuring parents and children have the support they need to thrive.
- Empowering Newcomers: Our Immigrant Services team welcomes and supports newcomers, refugees, and migrant workers, providing critical settlement and language services, employment supports, and mentorship. We help them find their footing, connect to the community, and build their new lives in Canada.
- Building the Workforce: Our Employment Services team helps hundreds of vulnerable participants—including immigrant youth, older adults, and those with diverse abilities—to develop essential job skills and secure meaningful employment, moving them toward independence.
- Answering the Call in Crisis: KCR operates a critical Crisis Line, offering a listening ear and life-saving support during times of intense mental and emotional distress. Last year, we responded to over 13,000 calls and text interactions.
