Founded as ‘Global Citizen Kelowna’ by local community leaders in 2003, Global Citizen Events is an annual initiative celebrating the role Central Okanagan citizens contribute to global and local humanitarian efforts. Through a series of activities organized by local non-profit and humanitarian groups, Global Citizen Events highlight the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals through events which Entertain, Educate, and Inspire Change.
ENTERTAIN – To communicate the role that we share as Global Citizens through the arts: music, photography, film, and artisans.
EDUCATE – To bring awareness to the 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (MDGs) by highlighting specific goals and what local people/groups are doing to reach those goals.
INSPIRE CHANGE – To make concerted efforts to respond based on what we have seen and learned and take us from inaction to individual and collective action, and from disillusionment to hope.
The intention behind these events, involving 300+ volunteers and community partners, is to bring together the Central Okanagan community, encourage social responsibility, and inspire change by thinking globally and acting locally. We invite you to help us Entertain, Educate, and Inspire Change.
