Topics:
  1. Play Your Way to Resilience
Play and delight are a soothing salve to children impacted by complex trauma or who otherwise have fragile nervous systems, as well as a relational exercise that literally changes the brain. But what about when it feels too hard to play? When you are too stressed or too worn out? Before we can focus on having my playful moments with our kids, we have to focus on having more playful moments with ourselves. Even if playfulness feels too overwhelming, together we will discover playful moments hidden in plain sight that will begin to build resilience into your own nervous system, ultimately allowing you to bring playful moments of connection to your child.

  2. What Behavior Really Is: Reframing Behavior through the Lens of Neuroscience
The fast-emerging field of relational neurosciences is creating a needed paradigm shift in understanding behaviours. When we understand what the real problem is, we are much more effective at solving that problem. Participants will learn three questions to ask themselves when faced with their child’s challenging behaviours. Together we will look at common challenging behaviours (specifically oppositional behaviour and shutting-down behaviour) to practice applying the model to real-life situations.

Who are these workshops for:
  • Adoptive Families
  • Families Waiting to Adopt
  • Professionals in British Columbia working in the field of adoptions
  • all the above are British Columbia residents or those families working with the Adoption Centre of British Columbia living outside BC
