Meet one of our 2025 participants:
A single mom, working hard but struggling to cover rent and groceries. Christmas felt impossible, then a sponsor stepped in and on Christmas morning, her kids opened wrapped gifts, one was a Bluey stuffy that her child dreamed of but she couldn’t afford. She felt seen, cared for and not alone.

How Sponsor a Family Works
Sponsor a Family matches families who may not be able to afford gifts for their children with sponsors who can help share the magic of the season.
One of the unique aspects of our program is that sponsors are matched to a family they feel connected to. As a sponsor, YOU get to choose the size of family you’ll support and can also make special requests such as ages of children etc.
You get a family’s wish list and you shop for the family or maybe you’re thinking “I’m not going to be able to go shopping”

My family and I have been Sponsoring a Family for a few years and I usually pick families with children of similar ages to mine. Doing the shopping for the family is a highlight of the year for us and it energizes us all. Last year was especially impactful as one of the kids we sponsored shared a love for so many of the same toys, books and games as my son – they even loved the same colour. Helpful Information as you prepare your holiday hamper
- To assist with budgeting, we suggest a minimum of $100 per person and a maximum of $300 per person for personal gifts/gift cards. If this exceeds your budget or if your fundraising exceeds our suggested guidelines, please contact us to discuss some options.
- Please provide an additional gift card for either superstore/Walmart or any grocery store so the family can purchase groceries for the holiday meal. Most families have access to these stores and the prices are reasonable. We suggest a minimum of $50 per family member, so a family of 4 would be $200. If your budget cannot accommodate a grocery gift card, please let us know.
- Please do not include any used items in the hamper.
- Hamper drop-off week will be Nov 30 – Dec 5. Once we have matched you with your special family, we will send you an email with the family’s wish list and a link to book drop off times. Please wrap any gifts you purchased and place the gift cards in an unsealed envelope for KCR staff to secure once received.
- If you would like a tax receipt, please ensure you bring all the receipts of the items you purchased in an envelope with your name, address and email address on it when you drop off the hamper.

Sponsor a Family FAQ’s
Yes, please wrap the presents, label it so family members can know who’s present it is and put any gift can in an unsealed envelope.
Yes, let us know your budget and how many families you would like and we will try our best to accommodate your request.

Please contact us and we will discuss your options. These include donating what you can and that being used to top up other family’s hampers or sponsoring multiple families.
Yes for anything over $20. Please make sure you bring all the receipts of the items you purchased in an envelope with your name, address and email address.

The hampers must be delivered between Nov 30 – Dec 4. We will send a link so you can book a time slot convenient for you. We will happily take the hampers earlier, but please contact us to arrange a time.
Matching will take place November 9-11. Sponsor will receive an email around that time with the family’s wish list.
The wish list personalizes the giving experience by providing a brief story of their current circumstances, first names of each family member and the individual wishes.
Unfortunately no, protecting the family’s confidentiality is very important for their safety and privacy. However, sponsors are welcome to include a card in the hamper if they would like with a personal message.
