There are Different Levels of Physiotherapy

Doctor-referred physiotherapy:

  • Acute care, in hospital: To improve function and assist in discharging people from the hospital
  • Home Care: Provided in a person’s home when they need physio that must be done in their home (such as a home safety assessment or home-bound individuals).
  • Outpatient Clinic: Includes services that help with discharging patients from hospital or preventing hospital admissions.

Self-referred (or recommended by a doctor):

  • Private physio clinics: Physiotherapists can assist with returning to normal function, without pain, in daily and recreational activities.
  • Community Recreation Centres and Fitness facilities: Health and wellness programs have been developed for a wide range of abilities. There are programs designed for specific conditions such as osteoporosis and arthritis, adapted programs, and beginner programs.
