Respect Lives Here - Sacred Spaces TourJoin us on Saturday, February 22nd, 2020, as we explore five of Kelowna’s Sacred Spaces together to learn, share, and deepen our understanding of different faiths. Everyone is invited! Hosts will greet the group, give insight into the ceremony, and answer any questions from participants.

Schedule:
1:00 pm – Opening Ceremony/Territory Acknowledgement and Tour Blessing by Westbank First Nation, Canadian Heritage Museum (470 Queensway)
1:15 pm – Departure by bus

Visits include:
  • The Bridge Community of Faith
  • Okanagan Sikh Temple
  • Gurdwara Guru Amardas Darbar Sikh Society
  • Islamic Centre – Masjid Project
  • Okanagan Jewish Centre
3:50 pm – Return to Canadian Heritage Museum
4:00-5:00 pm – Reception and photo contest winner announcement

Following the tour, you are invited to join us for food and refreshments at the Okanagan Heritage Museum, where prizes for the top three winners of the Respect Lives Here photo contest will be awarded.

Photo Contest

Respect Lives Here - Photo Contest
  1. Submit your photo via Instagram with the hashtag #respectliveshere2020 and tag @kcrcommunity OR submit your entry to borderlyscommunications@gmail.com with the title Respect Lives Here Photo Contest, between January 20th and February 10th, 2020.

  2. Tell us in a sentence or two why you chose this picture and why you feel it represents respect for diversity.

  3. Vote among the top 10 selected photos by liking the photos on the kcrcommunity Instagram account, and visiting the Okanagan Regional Library’s downtown location (1380 Ellis Street), where the photos will be on display to submit your ballot between February 12th–21st.

Criteria

Photos will be judged based on originality, respect for the theme, and aesthetic appeal. Prizes will be awarded for the top three photos. Our judgement panel will be looking for creative entries that reflect the theme, including a short quote to that effect.

Rules

  1. Photos must be accompanied with a quote detailing how the image represents Respect for Diversity in this community.
  2. You are welcome to submit more than one photo, with a limit of three entries/photos per participant.
  3. Contest participants can be of any age.
  4. Instagram posts must include the #Respectliveshere2020 hashtag, and tag @kcrcommunity.
  5. KCR Community Resources will narrow the entries to the top 10 photos, which will be displayed at the Okanagan Regional Library Central Branch as well as on the KCR Community Resources Instagram account. Public votes will determine the top 3 winning entries.
  6. Selected images may be used by KCR Community Resources for future communications/marketing materials.
Winners of the contest will be announced on Saturday, February 22nd, 4:00 pm, at the Okanagan Heritage Museum (470 Queensway). Join us for refreshments as we celebrate talent, diversity, and respect for each other.
